Security measures have been put in place to lock your computer after 5 minutes of non-activity. While we understand this can be a hindrance during teaching we have included an application, caffeine, on the Self Service Portal which will bypass this locking for a short period of time
****Please note that using caffeine can have adverse effects on your battery life as the computer will remain in a powered state until caffeine is deactivated.****
To install and set up Caffeine please follow these instructions:
Open Self Service 
Log into Self Service
Click Applications on right hand menu bar
Locate Caffeine and click install.
Click Launchpad Icon 
and locate Caffeine 
to start it up
In the Preferences page:
Please check off Automatically start caffeine at login
Please change default duration one hour
Using the Caffeine Application:
Caffeine will automatically startup and run in the background every time you start your computer.
To use caffeine simply click the coffee cup icon in the upper right hand corner of your screen near the clock.
- An Empty coffee cup icon
means it is deactivated and your computer will lock after 5 minutes of inactivity
- A Full Coffee cup icon
means in is activated and will not turn off for an hour.
Once time runs out, the Coffee cup will return to the empty coffee cup, and your computer will resume normal operation and security protocol of locking after 5 minutes of inactivity.
